George Negus is a familiar face on Australian television, well respected for his deft handling of what remains the demanding and dominating medium of his generation.

George's much-anticipated spin on the Moslem world, The World From Islam, has sold nearly 60,000 copies and is now available in paperback. It follows the huge success of his collaboration with partner Kirsty Cockburn on The World from Italy.

In 2005, George begins a new TV relationship with broadcaster SBS Television - best known for its international outlook and reflecting the wider Australian community. Working with SBS provides him with the opportunity to not only report on Australian issues, but international and even sporting matters!

George presents Dateline at 830pm each Wednesday - the SBS flagship current affairs program.

In 2004, George hosted the 630pm national time slot on ABC Television.

Recommissioned for 2003/04 and renamed George Negus Tonight, the trends and issues program included an Australia-wide team of reporters and producers. A viewer of GNT who also recently read the book has written from the school of physics at the University of WA. John Budge says: "George, I would like to say how much I enjoy "George Negus Tonight," long may it continue. Your nice, easy and laidback Aussie style is terrific." Unfortunately for such viewers, the ABC cancelled GNT after its 2004 season.

That so-called Negus-style emerged from his youth in Queensland where George followed a university and teaching career with several years in national newspapers. He has since worked in both commercial and public broadcasting. His broad activities in both professional and community life include ongoing journalistic commitments in TV, radio and print and his speaking and conference facilitating for a mix of government and commercial companies and non-profit organizations both in Australia and overseas.

In 2001, The World From Italy - football, food and politics, was a best seller in Australia --

"A colourful and thought-provoking book , which offers a far better insight into Italy than 10 travel guides," Sun Herald (Sydney)

"It is refreshing to read a book about Italy in which the local people are not reduced to lazy stereotypes to suit the author's poetic view of the country as a kind of sun-drenched Eden…it's a genial and thoughtful work." Peter Wilmoth, Age (Melbourne)

Prior to national elections in November 2001, George hosted the live-to-air Australia Talks featuring issue debates from around the country --

"…there are millions of currently voiceless Australians who want and deserve a forum to air their grievances and their opinions on a whole range of issues..it's one of those ideas that has been long overdue.." (Kellie White, Hobart Advocate)

A ground-breaking series aimed at giving Australians a forum for George's favourite passion - stirring the conversational pot - AT became a rapidly popular program:

"He's the perfect choice to be moderator….he has the ability to skirt the delicate edges of populism better than anyone at the ABC." (Anthony Dennis, SMH 6.8.01)

Acknowledging ATs impact, the owner and head of Australia's Channel Seven network told a media-solid audience at the Andrew Olle Memorial Lecture "The ABC, through program initiatives like Australia Talks has played a critical and vital role over the years in that democratic process - of making Australians better-informed."

AT was his 5th TV job which has included his unforgettable contributions as founding presenter of two of Australia's most watched television current affairs programs, Channel Nine's Sixty Minutes (1979-86) and ABC Television's Foreign Correspondent (1992-99) as well as Nine's Today Show and ABCs This Day Tonight.

Kirsty and George have collaborated on many media projects.

With Penguin Books and renowned illustrator Craig Smith on a series of best-selling childrens books entitled Trev the Truck. They had just moved to live in northern New South Wales in the late 80s and the series of six books captures the essence of eastern seaboard Australian life. *books still available/see website sales.

Weldon Publishing then sold-out its colour-photographed book based on the newly formed Negus Media International's co-produced documentary, Across the Red Unknown The 4WD journey from Vladivostock to Moscow undertaken in 1990 was beautifully photographed by Peter Solness, diarised by George and organised by Kirsty and Golden Dolphin Films.
